This section contains an alphabetical list of status, error, and warning messages that appear in the LCD panel.
The printer cannot work in double-sided printing feature. Make sure you are using an appropriate type and size of paper for the Duplex Unit.
This message appears when the size of the paper you loaded doesn't match the one selected in the printer driver's Basic Settings tab or SelecType. Load the correct size of paper, or change the paper size setting. Then, open the Duplex Unit cover and remove any jammed paper. Close the cover of the Duplex Unit, and press the Continue button. The printer resumes printing.
The paper size setting in the printer driver, or in SelecType, is different from the size of paper loaded in the printer. Load the correct size of paper in the printer and then press the Continue button to clear the message. Or, try changing the paper setting in SelecType or the paper size setting in the printer driver.
The paper type setting in the printer driver, or in SelecType, is different from the type of paper loaded in the printer. Load the correct type of paper in the printer; then press the Continue button to clear the message. Or, try changing the tray type setting in SelecType or the paper type setting in the printer driver.
The printer does not have sufficient memory or space on the Hard Disk Drive to collate print jobs. Only one set of copies will be printed. Reduce the contents of print jobs, add more memory, or install the optional Hard Disk Drive to your printer.
Press the Continue button to clear the message.
An error has occurred with the optional Duplex Unit. Turn off the printer and check if the optional Duplex Unit is installed correctly. Then, turn the printer back on.
If the message still appears, call your dealer or a qualified service representative.
There is not enough memory for duplex printing. The printer prints only on the top side and ejects the paper. To correct this error, follow the directions below.
If Auto Cont is Off in the SelecType Config menu, (1) press Continue or (2) reset the printer by pressing the ALT and Reset at the same time.
If Auto Cont is On in the SelecType Config menu, the error is corrected automatically.
This message indicates that there may be a paper jam inside the rear cover.
A format error has occurred with the ROM A or B. Replace the ROM A or B with a new ROM unit, for instructions on replacing the ROM, see ROM Module.
When the printer is offline and data remains in the printer's memory, press the Form Feed button to print out the data and clear the buffer. After printing, Ready appears on the LCD panel.
The front cover is open. Close the cover by pushing it into the printer.

If you still cannot close the cover, the imaging cartridge may not be installed correctly. Reinstall the imaging cartridge following the instructions described in Replacing the Imaging Cartridge.
The printer cannot print at the requested quality level because of insufficient memory, and the printer reduces the quality automatically so that it can continue printing. Check to see if the printout is acceptable. If not, add more memory (for a permanent solution) or temporarily set Device Resolution to Low (600 dpi or 300 dpi) and Page Protect to Auto in the driver.
The imaging cartridge is not correctly installed. See Replacing the Imaging Cartridge for information on how to reinstall it.
The paper cassette of the Large Capacity Paper Unit is not installed. Replace the paper cassette correctly and press Continue.
The printer cannot read the installed optional interface card. Turn off the printer, then remove the card. Reinstall a proper card.
Either the Hard Disk Drive is damaged or it cannot be used with this printer. Turn off the power and remove the Hard Disk Drive.
A PostScript3 ROM module not supported by this printer is installed, or a supported module is installed incorrectly. See ROM Module to make sure you are using the correct PostScript3 module, or to reinstall the module.
The ROM module in Slot A or B is not installed correctly or is invalid for this printer. Make sure you are using a proper ROM module or reinstall the module.
The print job sent to your printer is canceled.
An error occurred with the optional Large Capacity Paper Unit.
Turn off the printer, and make sure the Large Capacity Paper Unit is properly installed. Then, turn the printer back on.
If the message still appears, contact your dealer or a qualified service representative.
xxxx: Any number is indicated
Some part, such as the fuser or a cassette inside the printer should be replaced. Contact your dealer and inform them of the number (xxxx) that appears.
Manual Feed mode is specified for the current print job. Make sure the paper size indicated by yyy is loaded in xxx paper source, then press On Line.
If you do not want to print this job in manual mode, press Continue. The printer feeds paper according to the paper source setting.

The printer has insufficient memory available for the current task. To correct the error, press Continue. If the message remains, press Alt and Reset buttons at the same time.
You can also clear this error by turning the printer off and back on again. However, it may be necessary to reduce the number or size of fonts, reduce the number or size of graphics, lower the resolution, or add more memory to the printer.
SelecType, which is usually accessible from the printer's control panel, has been disabled. To change this setting, consult your printer's administrator.
An error occurred with the optional Multibin Unit. Make sure the Multibin Unit is turned on. Turn off the printer and wait for 5 seconds, then turn it back on. If the message still appears, contact your dealer or a qualified service representative.
The mailbox (1 to 10) on the optional Multibin Unit is full of documents or it is not closed. Remove the documents from the indicated mailbox or close the box, and press Continue.
Your printer lacks the amount of the printer memory required to print the current job. Reduce the images or text on the print job, or install an optional memory module. See Memory Modules.
The printer is not ready to print. Press the On Line button.
The printer cannot feed paper to the output tray you selected, because of a paper size discrepancy or some other problem. The printed sheet is fed to the face-down tray.
There is no paper in the specified paper source (xxx). Load paper of the indicated size (yyy) into the paper source. See Loading Paper for instructions on loading paper.
The paper loaded in the paper source (xxx) does not match the required paper size (yyy). Replace the paper with the correct size of paper and press Continue.
The time required to process data exceeds the print engine speed because the volume of data is too great. Press Continue to resume printing. If this message appears again, change the Page Protect setting in SelecType Config menu.
Writing to the Hard Disk Drive is no longer possible as the amount of space available on the Hard Disk Drive for PostScript3 is full.
The printer is checking the RAM.
The printer is ready to receive data and print.
The printer failed to store the data of your print job sent to the printer by using the Reserve Job function. The total number of print jobs stored in the printer's memory exceeds the limit, or the printer has no more memory available to store a new job. To store a new print job, delete pre-existing stored jobs to make sufficient memory available to store the new job. If you have any Confidential Jobs stored in the printer's memory, printing those Confidential Jobs makes some memory available.
The printer's current interface has been reset and the buffer is cleared. However, other interfaces are still active and retain their settings and data.
All printer settings have been reset to the user default configuration, or to the last settings that were saved.
You have changed the SelecType setting but the new setting is not activated immediately after exiting SelecType. To activate the new setting, do one of the following: (1) exit SelecType by pressing Continue or On Line (the new setting is activated after the current print job is finished), or (2) reset the printer by pressing ALT and Reset at the same time.
The printer is checking the ROM.
The printer is performing a quick internal check.
A controller error or a print engine error has been detected. Write down the error number listed on the LCD panel (xyyy) and turn off the printer. Wait at least five seconds and then turn it back on. If the error message still appears, turn off the printer, unplug the power cord, and contact a qualified service representative.
The optional Shifter Unit is full. Remove the print job from the Shifter and press Continue.
The Shifter unit is malfunctioning. Check it for paper jams or other obvious problems. After visually checking the Shifter unit, remove it and re-install it correctly. See Shifter for information on removing and installing the Shifter. If the message remains, contact your dealer or a qualified service representative.
The printer is in its low power state; however, it is still online if the On Line light is on.
The printer is almost out of toner. Prepare a new Imaging Cartridge to replace the current one.
You must replace the imaging cartridge. See Replacing the Imaging Cartridge for information on how to replace it. This message is not displayed when Toner OUT is set to Continue in the SelecType.
Press Continue to print one more page.
The printer is warming up. When the printer is ready, this message will change to Ready.
A write error has occurred with the ROMx (A or P). Replace the ROMx (A or P) with a new ROM unit, for instructions on replacing the ROM, see ROM Module.
This message appears when the printer is accessing data strored in the ROM A or P. You can continue printing when accessing is complete, which normally requires about three minutes.
