Aligning the Print Head
Using the Print Head Alignment utility
Using the Control Panel
If you notice vertical lines are not aligned properly, you may be able to solve this problem by aligning the print head.
You can align the print head from your computer using the Print Head Alignment utility in the printer software, or from this product itself by using the Control Panel.

Do not start the print head alignment while copying is in progress; otherwise, your printout may be marred.

Do not press the Stop button to cancel printing while printing an alignment pattern.

Using the Print Head Alignment utility
Refer to the appropriate section below to use the Print Head Alignment utility.
For Windows users
Follow the steps below to align the print head using the Print Head Alignment utility.

Make sure that A4 or Letter size plain paper is loaded in the sheet feeder.
|

Make sure that this product is on and the Error light is off.
|
|
Access the printer software, click the Maintenance tab, and then click the Print Head Alignment button.
|

Follow the on-screen instructions to align the print head.
|
For Macintosh users
Follow the steps below to align the print head using the Print Head Alignment utility.

Make sure that A4 or Letter size plain paper is loaded in the sheet feeder.
|
|
Make sure that this product is on and the Error light is off.
|
|
For users of Mac OS 8.6 to 9.x, access the printer software, click the Utility icon button, and then click the Print Head Alignment button.
|
For Mac OS X users, double-click the EPSON Printer Utility icon in the Applications folder in Macintosh HD (by default setting), select this product, click OK in the Printer List window, and then click the Print Head Alignment button in the Utility dialog box.

Follow the on-screen instructions to align the print head.

Using the Control Panel
Follow the steps below to align the print head using the Control Panel.

Make sure that this product is on and the Error light is off.
|
|
Load a few sheets of A4 size paper in the sheet feeder.
|
|
Press one of the Menu buttons repeatedly until Head Alignment 1 appears on the LCD panel, and then press the Color Copy button.
|
The alignment patterns are printed.
|
Look at the alignment patterns. Find the pair of vertical lines that is aligned in pattern #1, then select the number of the pair using the Copies/Value buttons.

Press the Color Copy button to register your selection. The next pattern number appears. As with pattern #1, find and register the aligned pairs for the remaining alignment patterns #2 through #5.

After setting all the alignment patterns, Head Alignment 2 appears on the LCD panel. If you want to continue the print head alignment, press the Color Copy button to print the alignment patterns; otherwise, press the Stop button.

Even if you press the Stop button, the settings you made in Head Alignment 1 are still saved.

Look at the alignment patterns. Find the pair of horizontal bars with no dark or light band between them, then select the number of the pair using the Copies/Value buttons.

Press the Color Copy button to register your selection.
|
|
Head Alignment 3 appears on the LCD panel. If you want to continue the print head alignment, press the Color Copy button to print the alignment patterns and repeat steps 7 and 8. If you want to stop the print head alignment, press the Stop button.

After all patterns are set, the print head alignment is completed.
