Connecting to the Network
Making the interface connection setting
This printer has the following three host interfaces: an Ethernet interface (Internal Print Server), a parallel interface, and an optional Type B interface. You can use these host interfaces to connect the printer to the network.
1: Ethernet I/F connector (Internal Print Server connector) |
2: Parallel I/F connector |
3: Optional Type B interface slot |
The Internal Print Server automatically selects either 10BaseT or 100BaseTX when the printer is turned on. You must use a shielded twisted-pair cable if your network uses 100BaseTX or 10 BaseT.
Caution: |
Make sure to use a shielded twisted-pair cable to connect the Internal Print Server to 100 BaseTX and 10 BaseT networks, otherwise the Internal Print Server may malfunction. |
The interface type is an IEEE 1284 bidirectional parallel interface. You can connect the printer directly to the computer, and any client can print through the computer.
The printer has an optional Type B interface slot. See the Reference Guide for what interface card models you can use with this printer and how install them in your printer. For instructions on using the interface card, see your interface card manual.
If the printer is set to the auto interface mode by default, you do not have to make the interface connection setting on the printer's control panel.
The following table shows the available host interfaces.
