Making Basic Driver Settings

For Windows 98/95/2000/NT 4.0 users
For Windows 3.1 users
For Windows NT 3.51 users

Before you start printing, you should make sure that the driver settings match your document requirements. While many Windows applications override the printer settings made with the driver, some do not.

Be sure to check the following:

  • Paper:

The size of the paper loaded in the printer.

  • Orientation:

The direction of printing on the page (portrait or landscape).

  • Print Quality:

The print resolution in dots per inch (dpi).

  • Paper Source:

Paper trays where you load paper.

  • Output Tray:

Trays for printed paper stacks.

  • Installed Memory:

The amount of memory installed in the printer (standard memory is 16 MB).

For Windows 98/95/2000/NT 4.0 users

Follow these steps to make the required settings:

Click the Start button, point to Settings; then click Printers.

Right-click your printer icon and choose Properties. Be sure to right-click the icon.

Click the Optional Settings tab.

Select the Update the Printer Option Info Manually radio button, then click the Settings button.

Select the amount of installed memory in your printer.

If you have installed optional paper cassettes, you should highlight your paper cassette combination. This will allow you to select optional lower cassettes as paper sources.

Select the optional output tray. When you select 5-Bin Multi-Purpose Unit or 10-Bin Multi-Purpose Unit, the Multibin Mode Settings list box becomes available.

Select one from the list box to match the Multibin Unit Settings in the driver to the settings in SelecType.

Click the Basic Settings tab.

Note:
For Windows NT 4.0, right-click your printer icon and choose Document Defaults. Then click the Basic Settings tab.

Select the paper size you loaded in the printer from the Paper list. If you don't see your paper size on the list, use the arrow on the right to scroll through the list.

Select Portrait or Landscape orientation. The direction of printing on the diagram on the screen changes according to the orientation you select.

Select the paper source and paper type.

Select the resolution from Print Quality.

Make any other settings you wish, and click OK when you are finished.

For Windows 3.1 users

Follow these steps to access the driver and make the required settings:

In the Main window, double-click the Control Panel icon.

Double-click the Printers icon.

Make sure your printer is highlighted, and click the Setup button.

Select the paper size you loaded in the printer from Paper. If you don't see your paper size on the list, use the arrow on the right to scroll through the list.

Select Portrait or Landscape orientation. The printing direction of the screen illustration changes according to the orientation you select.

Select the resolution from Print Quality.

Select the paper source.

Make any other settings you wish, and click OK when you are finished.

For Windows NT 3.51 users

Follow these steps to access the driver and make the required settings:

In the Main window, double-click the Control Panel icon.

Double-click the Printers icon.

Double-click the printer icon which matches your printer.

Select Properties from the Printers menu.

Make sure your printer is selected and click the Setup button.

In the Printer Setting tab, select the paper source and paper size.

Click the Optional Settings tab.

Click the Settings button.

Select the amount of installed memory in your printer.

If you have installed any optional paper cassettes, you should highlight your paper cassette combination. This will allow you to select the optional lower cassettes as paper sources.

Select the optional output tray. When you select 5-Bin Multi-Purpose Unit or 10-Bin Multi-Purpose Unit, the Multibin Mode list box becomes available.

Select one from the list box to match the Multibin Unit Settings in the driver to the settings in SelecType.

Make any other settings you wish, and click OK when you are finished.
