The control panel of the printer consists of 7 buttons, 4 lights, and a liquid crystal display (LCD).

Buttons

This section describes the functions of the buttons on the control panel.

Button

Description

Power button

Turns the printer on or off.

Pause button

Stops printing temporarily.

Restarts printing if pressed when the printer is in the pause mode.

The printer returns to the READY state when this button is pressed in the Menu mode.

Clears print data in the printer memory if pressed and held for 3 seconds.

Menu button

Enters the Menu mode when pressed in the READY state. When pressed in the Menu mode, a desired menu can be selected.

Enters PRINTER STATUS menu if pressed during printing.

Cleans the print head if pressed and held for 3 seconds.

Paper Source button

Selects a paper source (Roll Auto Cut On /Roll Auto Cut Off /Sheet )

Returns to the previous level when pressed in the Menu mode.

Enters the cutter replacement mode if pressed and held for 3 seconds.

Paper Feed button

Feeds paper in the forward direction.

Changes the parameters in the forward order when selecting a desired parameter in the Menu mode.

Paper Feed button

Feeds paper in the reverse direction as much as the paper has been fed by using the Paper Feed button.

Note:
If you have fed the paper forward by hand, you cannot feed the paper in the reverse direction by using this button.

Changes the parameter in the reverse order when selecting a desired parameter in the Menu mode.

Enter button

Executes the item if the selected item is for execution only.

When Sheet is selected, this button ejects the cut sheet if pressed and held for 3 seconds.

When Roll Auto Cut On is selected, this button cuts the paper automatically if pressed and held for 3 seconds.

When Roll Auto Cut Off is selected, this button feeds the paper if pressed and held for 3 seconds. Then the paper is cut using the manual cutter unit.

When the printer is drying ink, this button stops the ink drying process and ejects the paper if pressed and held for 3 seconds.

Lights

This section describes the functions of the lights on the control panel.

The lights let you know the status of the printer and the type of an error when it occurs.

Light

Description

Power light (green)

On:
The printer is on.

Flashing:
The printer is receiving print data or shutting down.

Off:
The printer is off.

Pause light (yellow)

On:
The printer is in the pause mode.

Off:
The printer is ready to print data.

Paper check light (red)

On:
No paper is loaded in the manual feed when Sheet is selected as the paper source.
Roll paper is out when Roll Auto Cut On or Roll Auto Cut Off is selected as the paper source.
The selected paper source (Roll Auto Cut On /Roll Auto Cut Off /Sheet ) does not match the paper source in the printer driver.
The paper lever is in the released position.
The loaded paper is too thick for head cleaning.

Flashing:
Paper is jammed.
Paper is almost out.
Paper is not cut correctly after the print job when Roll Auto Cut On is selected as the paper source.
Paper is not loaded straight.
Paper is not detected.
Cut sheet is not ejected correctly.

Ink check light (red)

On:
The installed ink cartridge is empty.
The installed ink cartridges cannot be used with this printer.
The maintenance tank is full.

Flashing:
The installed ink cartridge is nearly empty.
The maintenance tank is nearly full.

Combination of buttons

This section describes the functions available when several buttons are pressed at the same time.

If the printer is turned on while you are pressing and holding the Pause button, the printer enters the Maintenance Mode.

By pressing the Pause button and Paper Source button, you can switch the Roll Paper Counter setting on and off.

Note:
To use this combination of buttons, REMAINING PPR SETUP in the Maintenance mode and ROLL PAPER COUNTER in the Menu mode should be on.

Messages

This section describes the meaning of messages displayed on the LCD.

Messages are either status messages or error messages. For error messages, see An error has occurred.

Description

READY

The printer is ready to print data.

PRINTING

The printer is processing data.

INK DRYING

The printer is drying ink.

PAUSE

The printer is paused.

Displays EPSON logo and progress bar

The printer is preparing to print.

CUTTING PAPER
PLEASE WAIT

The printer is cutting the paper.

PLEASE WAIT

Wait until READY appears.

CLEANING
PLEASE WAIT

The printer is cleaning the ink tubes.

PRESS PAUSE BUTTON

Press the Pause button.

CHARGING INK

The printer is charging the ink delivery system.

RESETTING
PLEASE WAIT

The printer is resetting. Wait a while.

UPDATING FIRMWARE

The printer is updating the FirmWare.

FIRMWARE UPDATE COMPLETE

The printer has completed update of the FirmWare.

POWER OFF
PLEASE WAIT

The printer is turning off.

This section describes the meaning of icons displayed on the LCD.

Roll Paper Margin icon

Displays the paper margin when the roll paper is selected.

Icons

Description

Displays the top and bottom roll paper margins. This icon does not appear when Default is selected.

15mm:
Top and bottom margins are15 mm, and right and left margins are 3 mm.

35/15mm:
Top margin is 35 mm, bottom margin is 15 mm, and right and left margins are 3 mm.

3mm:
Margins of all sides are 3 mm.

15mm:
Margins of all sides are 15 mm.

Roll Paper Counter icon

Displays when REMAINING PPR SETUP in the Maintenance mode and ROLL PAPER COUNTER in the Menu mode is on.

Remaining ink icon

Displays the amount of ink remaining.

Displays the free capacity of the maintenance tank. Displays one maintenance icon for EPSON Stylus Pro 7800/7400 and two maintenance icon for EPSON Stylus Pro 9800/9400.
