Using the EPSON StatusMonitor

EPSON StatusMonitor regularly monitors the printer status. If a printer error is detected, you will be informed with an error message. You can also use this utility to check ink levels before printing.

Accessing EPSON StatusMonitor

To access EPSON StatusMonitor, follow the steps below.

Click Print or Page Setup on the File menu of your application.

Click Remaining Ink Level, or click Utility. If you click Utility, click EPSON StatusMonitor in the Utility dialog. The EPSON StatusMonitor dialog appears.

EPSON StatusMonitor informs you of the amount of ink remaining and the free space of the maintenance tank as of the time the StatusMonitor was opened. To update the information, click Update.

Making Configuration Settings

You can select the way the EPSON StatusMonitor utility monitors your printer, and the way you will be notified of information. To make Configuration settings, click Configuration in the Utility dialog. The Configuration Settings dialog appears.

You can make the following settings in this dialog.

Error notification

Choose how the EPSON StatusMonitor notifies you in case of an error.

Warning

Choose how the EPSON StatusMonitor notifies you if a warning message becomes necessary.

Temporary Spool folder

Choose the folder for temporary spooling of print data.

Temporary High Speed Copies folder

Choose the folders for multiple-copy print data storage.

Data will be sent to the printer after being stored on your disk.

Select this check box to prevent horizontal banding in your printout. By default, graphics data is sent by the computer to the printer in rectangular bands, which prevents the printer from having to reconstruct an entire data in memory before printing it. Selecting this check box will make the computer temporarily store the data on its hard drive and then send it to the printer as a whole to prevent banding in the printed image.

Check for errors before starting to print.

Select this check box if you want to check for errors before starting to print.

Check the ink level before starting to print.

Select this check box if you want to check the ink level before starting to print.

Using EPSON Monitor IV

After you send a print job to the printer, you can use the EPSON Monitor IV utility to check, cancel, or change the priority of print job that are queued for printing. This utility also shows the status of the job currently being printed.

Accessing EPSON Monitor IV

To access EPSON Monitor IV, follow the steps below.

Select On as the Background Printing setting in the Chooser or in the Background Printing dialog.

Send a print job to the printer.

Select EPSON Monitor IV from the Application menu at the right end of the menu bar. The EPSON Monitor IV dialog appears.

Note:
You can also open EPSON Monitor IV dialog by double-clicking the EPSON Monitor IV icon in the Extensions folder.

Managing print jobs using EPSON Monitor IV

You can manage the print jobs in the following ways.

Hold

Pauses printing and keep the current print job at the top of the print queue.

Resume

Resumes printing.

Delete

Stops printing and deletes print job from the print queue.

Print Head Cleaning

Starts the Head Cleaning utility

Remaining Ink Level

Starts EPSON StatusMonitor, which displays the amount of ink remaining and the free space of the maintenance tank

Note:
This function is disabled when you are printing the ESC/P command file.

Changing print job priority

To change the priority of print jobs in a print queue, follow the steps below.

Note:
You can also change the priority of print jobs that had print times previously set in the Background Printing dialog.

Select the print job that you want to change the priority in the Document Name.

Click the Show details arrow to open an extension at the bottom of the EPSON Monitor IV dialog.

Select Urgent, Normal, Hold, or Print Time from the Priority pull-down menu.
