Printer parts

1. Paper support: Supports the loaded paper.

2. Paper support extension: Supports long paper that is loaded in the sheet feeder.

3. Edge guides: Help load the paper straight. Adjust the left edge guide to fit the width of your paper.

4. Printer cover: Protects the printing mechanism. Open only when installing or replacing ink cartridges.

5. Output tray: Receives the ejected paper.

6. Output tray extension: Supports the ejected paper.

7. Sheet feeder: Feeds a stack of paper automatically.

1. Ink cartridge clamps: Hold the ink cartridges in place. Open only when installing or replacing ink cartridges.

2. Print head: Delivers ink to the paper.

3. Adjust lever: Adjusts the distance between the print head and the paper to prevent smearing. Set to the "+" position if ink smears on your document when you print on thick paper or envelopes.

4. Ink cartridge replacement button: Moves the print head to the ink cartridge replacement position. After replacing the cartridge, press the button again; the head charges with ink and returns to the printing position.

5. Control panel: Controls various printer functions. See the next section for details.

Control panel

The control panel consists of buttons and indicator lights, and gives you access to several features. Match the icons on the control panel with those in the tables below.

power

Turns the printer on and off.

Clears the printer's memory if pressed twice while the power is on.

load/eject

Loads or ejects paper if pressed and released within 2 seconds.

Resumes printing if pressed and released after a paper out error.

cleaning

Performs print head cleaning if held for 3 seconds when the  black or  color ink out light is off.

Ink cartridge replacement

Charges ink to the print head when you replace the ink cartridges (this orange button is located under the printer cover, not in the control panel).

power

On when the printer is on.

Flashing when printer is receiving data, printing, replacing an ink cartridge, charging ink, or cleaning the print head.

paper out

On when the printer is out of paper. Load paper in the sheet feeder, then press the  load/eject button to resume printing.

Flashing when the paper is jammed. Take all of the paper out of the feeder, then reload the paper. If the light continues to flash, turn off the printer and gently pull all the paper out of the printer.

black ink out

On when the black ink cartridge is empty. Replace the black ink cartridge (T015).

Flashing when the black ink cartridge is nearly empty.

color ink out

On when the color ink cartridge is empty. Replace the color ink cartridge (T016).

Flashing when the color ink cartridge is nearly empty.
