Printer parts
Control panel
1. Paper support: Supports the loaded paper.
2. Edge guides: Help load the paper straight. Adjust the left edge guide to fit the width of your paper.
3. Printer cover: Protects the printing mechanism. Open only when installing or replacing ink cartridges.
4. Output tray: Receives the ejected paper.
5. Output tray extension: Supports the ejected paper.
6. Sheet feeder: Feeds a stack of paper automatically.
1. Ink cartridge clamps: Hold the ink cartridges in place. Open only when installing or replacing ink cartridges.
2. Print head: Delivers ink to the paper.
3. Adjust lever: Adjusts the distance between the print head and the paper to prevent smearing. Set to the "+" position if ink smears on your document when you print on thick paper or envelopes.
4. Control panel: Controls various printer functions. See the next section for detail.
The control panel consists of buttons and indicator lights and gives you access to several features. Match the icons on the control panel with those in the tables below.

Turns the printer on and off. Clears the printer's memory if pressed twice while the power is on. |

Loads or ejects paper if pressed and released within 2 seconds. Resumes printing if pressed and released after a paper out error. |

Moves the print head to the ink cartridge replacement position if pressed for 3 seconds while the black or color ink out light is flashing or on. Returns the print head to its home position after ink cartridge replacement. Performs print head cleaning if pressed for 3 seconds while the black or color ink out light is off. |

On when the printer is on. Flashing when the printer is receiving data, printing, replacing an ink cartridge, charging ink, or cleaning the print head. |

On when the printer is out of paper. Load paper in the sheet feeder, then press the load/eject button to resume printing. Flashing when the paper is jammed. Take all of the paper out of the feeder, then reload the paper. If the light continues to flash, turn off the printer and gently pull all the paper out of the printer. |

On when the black ink cartridge is empty. Replace the black ink cartridge (T019). Flashing when the black ink cartridge is nearly empty. |

On when the color ink cartridge is empty. Replace the color ink cartridge (T020). Flashing when the color ink cartridge is nearly empty. |
