Miscellaneous Printout ProblemsIncorrect or garbled charactersTurn off the printer and computer. Make sure the printer’s interface cable is securely plugged in.
Incorrect marginsCheck the margin settings in your application. Make sure that the margins are within the printable area of the page.
![]() Make sure the printer driver settings are appropriate for the paper size you are using.
For Windows, check the Main window. For Mac OS X, check the Page Setup dialog box or Print dialog box. See the printer driver online help for details. Printout has a slight slantIf Fast Economy is selected for Quality in the printer driver Main window, select Fine or Normal (Windows).
Inverted imageFor Windows, clear the Mirror Image check box from the Additional window of your printer driver, or turn off the Mirror Image setting in your application.
For Mac OS X, turn off the Mirror Image setting in your application. For instructions, see the online help for your printer driver or for your application. Blank pages printMake sure the printer driver settings are appropriate for the paper size you are using.
For Windows, check the Main window. For Mac OS X, check the Page Setup dialog box or Print dialog box. See the printer driver online help for details. For Windows, check the Skip Blank Page setting by clicking the Extended Settings button on the Maintenance window of the printer driver.
For Mac OS X 10.5 or later, select On from the Skip Blank Page. To display the Skip Blank Page, click through the following menus: System Preference, Print & Fax, your printer (in the Printers list box), Options & Supplies, and then Driver. For Mac OS X 10.4, check the Skip Blank Page setting in Extension Settings in the Print dialog box of your printer driver. If it is selected, blank pages in your data are not printed. After trying one or more of these solutions, run a printer operation check to check your results.
Printed side is smeared or scuffedIf the paper is curled toward the printable side, flatten it or curl it slightly in the opposite direction.
Clear the High Speed check box in the printer driver Additional window (Windows).
See the printer driver online help for details. Printing is too slowMake sure the paper type selected in the printer driver is appropriate for the type of paper loaded in the printer.

For Mac OS X, choose a lower Print Quality in the Print Settings dialog box from your printer driver’s Print dialog box. ![]() ![]() For Mac OS X 10.5 or later, select On from the High Speed Printing. To display the High Speed Printing, click through the following menus: System Preference, Print & Fax, your printer (in the Printers list box), Options & Supplies, and then Driver.
For Mac OS X 10.4, check the High Speed Printing setting in Extension Settings in the Print dialog box of your printer driver. Close any unnecessary applications.
If you print continuously for an extended period, the printing may be extremely slow. This is to slow down the printing speed and prevent the printer mechanism from overheating and being damaged. If this happens, you can continue to print, but we recommend stopping and leaving the printer idle for more than 30 minutes with the power on. (The printer does not recover with the power off.) After you restart, the printer will print at normal speed.
