Installing EPSON PhotoStarter and EPSON CardMonitor

For Products with Memory Card Slots

When installing the software, EPSON PhotoStarter and EPSON CardMonitor are also installed. See your product's documentation for information on how to install the software.

Note:
  • You can select the software you want to install from a list of choices. If you do not want to install EPSON PhotoStarter and EPSON CardMonitor, click Custom when the installer opens and clear the EPSON PhotoStarter / CardMonitor check boxes, then click Install.
  • If you are upgrading from older versions of EPSON PhotoStarter and EPSON CardMonitor, the old versions are automatically uninstalled before the new versions are installed. Follow the on-screen instructions for installation.

For Products without Memory Card Slots

Insert the software CD into the CD-ROM drive. If the Installer dialog box does not appear, double-click EPSETUP.EXE on the CD-ROM.

Click the Custom button.

Select EPSON PhotoStarter / CardMonitor, clear other check boxes, then click OK.

Follow the on-screen instructions.

Note:
If you are upgrading from older versions of EPSON PhotoStarter and EPSON CardMonitor, the old versions are automatically uninstalled before the new versions are installed. Follow the on-screen instructions for installation.

About EPSON PhotoStarter and EPSON CardMonitor

EPSON CardMonitor

EPSON CardMonitor monitors the memory card slots in your product and computer and launches EPSON PhotoStarter.

Note:
EPSON CardMonitor will continue to monitor the memory card slots of your computer when you use a product without memory card slots.

EPSON PhotoStarter

The following settings are available in the EPSON PhotoStarter setup assistant:

Note:
  • If you select to have EPSON PhotoQuicker open automatically when a memory card is inserted into the memory card slot of your product or computer, EPSON PhotoQuicker will load the data from the memory card automatically.
  • When using a product without memory card slots, EPSON PhotoStarter monitors the memory card slots of your computer.
  • Different memory cards operate in different ways. Be sure to refer to the documentation packaged with your memory card and PC card adapter for details.
  • Make sure your memory card' s capacity is 512 MB or less and that the memory card contains only data taken with a DCF-compliant digital camera. Memory cards that do not meet these specifications are not supported by EPSON PhotoStarter and EPSON CardMonitor.

Making EPSON PhotoStarter Settings

Follow the instructions below to use the setup assistant for EPSON PhotoStarter.

When a memory card is inserted into a memory card slot for the first time after installing EPSON PhotoStarter and CardMonitor, the setup assistant appears on the computer's display.

Follow the on-screen instructions to set up the PhotoStarter.

For Windows XP

In Windows XP you can select to have Windows perform a specific action each time a memory card is inserted into the memory card slot of the product or computer. For example, you can choose to view a slide show or have your pictures printed as soon as the memory card is recognized. To make the selection of actions available each time a memory card is inserted into a memory card slot, select Prompt me each time to choose an action in the AutoPlay window.

Note:
This is a standard feature of Windows XP. Refer to the operating system's documentation for details.

Click the Start button, then click My Computer.

Right-click the device into which you want to insert a memory card, then click Properties.

Click the AutoPlay tab.

Choose Pictures as a content type.

Note:
If the memory card contains music files or video files, choose Mixed content.

Select Select an action to perform, then choose Startup CardMonitor using EPSON CardMonitor1.x.

Changing the EPSON PhotoStarter Settings

To change EPSON PhotoStarter settings, follow the instructions below.

Click the Start button, point to All Programs (Programs in Windows Me, 98, and 2000), point to EPSON PhotoQuicker, then click EPSON PhotoStarter3.x.

Click Settings, then select Change Settings to open the setup assistant. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Uninstalling EPSON PhotoStarter

For Windows XP

Click the Start button, click Control Panel, then double-click Add or Remove Programs.

Choose EPSON PhotoStarter3.x from the list of programs, then click the Change/Remove button.

For Windows Me, 98, and 2000

Click the Start button, point to Programs, point to EPSON PhotoQuicker, then choose Uninstalling EPSON PhotoStarter3.x.

The Confirm File Deletion dialog box appears. Click OK.

When a message appears informing you that uninstallation is complete, click Finish.

Uninstalling EPSON CardMonitor

For Windows XP

Click the Start button, click Control Panel, then double-click Add or Remove Programs.

Choose EPSON CardMonitor from the list of programs, then click the Change/Remove button.

Note:
EPSON PhotoStarter must be uninstalled before uninstalling EPSON CardMonitor.

For Windows Me, 98, and 2000

Click the Start button, point to Programs, point to EPSON PhotoQuicker, then choose Uninstalling EPSON CardMonitor.

The Confirm File Deletion dialog box appears. Click OK.

When a message appears informing you that uninstallation is complete, click Finish.

Note:
EPSON PhotoStarter must be uninstalled before uninstalling EPSON CardMonitor.
