Connecting to the Network

Connecting the Internal Print Server to the Network

This printer has the following four host interfaces: an Ethernet interface (Internal Print Server), a parallel interface, a serial interface, and an optional Type B interface. You can use these host interfaces to connect the printer to the network.

Ethernet I/F connector (Internal Print Server)

The Internal Print Server automatically selects either 10BaseT or 100BaseTX when the printer is turned on. You must use a shielded twisted-pair cable (Category 5).

Caution:
Be sure to use a shielded twisted-pair cable (Category 5) to connect the Internal Print Server to 100 BaseTX and 10 BaseT networks, otherwise the Internal Print Server may malfunction.

Serial interface

The interface type is an RS-232C. You can connect the printer directly to a computer, and any client can print through the computer.

Parallel interface

The interface type is an IEEE 1284 bidirectional parallel interface. You can connect the printer directly to a computer, and any client can print through the computer.

Optional Type B interface

The printer has an optional Type B interface slot. See the Reference Guide for what interface card models you can use with this printer and how install them in your printer. For instructions on using the interface card, see your interface card manual.
