Replacing the Ribbon Cartridge

Genuine Epson ribbon cartridge

When printing becomes faint, you need to replace the ribbon cartridge. Genuine Epson ribbon cartridges are designed and manufactured to work properly with your Epson printer. They ensure proper operation and long life of the print head and other printer parts. Other products not manufactured by Epson may cause damage to your printer, which is not covered by Epson’s warranties.
Your printer uses the following ribbon cartridge:

Replacing the ribbon cartridge

Follow these steps to install or replace the ribbon cartridge:
Warning:
You need to move the print head by hand to replace the ribbon cartridge. If you have just used the printer, the print head may be hot; let it cool for a few minutes before touching it.
Make sure the printer is turned off.
Unplug the printer from the electric outlet.
Hold both sides of the printer cover and move it upward to open it.
Push the release lever to move the upper mechanism forward. Make sure that you push the lever until it clicks.
Slide the print head to the middle of the printer by hand.
Caution:
Never move the print head while the printer is turned on; this can damage the printer.
Hold both sides of the ribbon guide and pull it down until it is out of the print head.
Hold both sides of the ribbon cartridge with both hands and rotate it on the plastic hooks. Then pull it up until it is out of the printer.
Caution:
Do not touch the white cable inside the printer.
Remove the new ribbon cartridge from the package.
Place the plastic hooks on the ribbon cartridge into the slots of the printer. Then press the cartridge until it clicks into place.
Hold both sides of the ribbon guide and pull it down until it is out of the cartridge.
Put the ribbon guide at the bottom of the print head and push it up until it clicks.
Turn the ribbon-tightening knob to help feed the ribbon into place.
Caution:
The ribbon should not be twisted or creased.
Pull the release lever back to move the upper mechanism to its original position. Make sure that you pull the lever until it clicks.
Caution:
Make sure that you move the upper mechanism by pulling the release lever. Do not pull the mechanism by hand. It may damage the printer.
Close the printer cover.
