Replacing the Ribbon Cartridge
Genuine EPSON ribbon cartridge
When printing becomes faint, you need to replace the ribbon cartridge. Genuine EPSON ribbon cartridges are designed and manufactured to work properly with your EPSON printer. They ensure proper operation and long life of the print head and other printer parts. Other products not manufactured by EPSON may cause damage to your printer, which is not covered by EPSON’s warranties.
Your printer uses the following ribbon cartridge:

Replacing the ribbon cartridge
Follow these steps to install or replace the ribbon cartridge:

Make sure the printer is turned off.

Warning:|
If you have just used the printer, the print head may be hot; let it cool for a few minutes before replacing the ribbon cartridge.

Open the printer cover to the upright position.
|
Note:|
When using the optional roll paper holder, open the roll paper holder cover.

Remove the paper tension unit. Be careful not to touch the blade on the paper tension unit.

Make sure that the print head is in the middle of the printer. (If it is not, turn on the printer, and then, turn off the printer.) Then remove the ribbon cartridge from the printer.

Note:|
Do not touch the white cable inside the printer.

Remove the new ribbon cartridge from its package.
|

Turn the ribbon-tightening knob in the direction of the arrow to remove any slack from the ribbon so it is easier to install.

Insert the ribbon cartridge into the printer as shown; then press both sides of the cartridge firmly to fit the plastic hooks into the printer slots.

Use a pointed object, such as a ball point pen, to guide the ribbon between the print head and ribbon guide.
|
 |
Turn the ribbon-tightening knob in the direction of the arrow to help feed the ribbon into place; it should not be twisted or creased.

Reinstall the paper tension unit. First, place the protruding section (1) into the groove, and then roll the paper tension unit forward to place the second protruding section (2) into the groove.

Note:|
When using the optional roll paper holder, attach the paper tension unit, and then close the roll paper holder cover.

Close the printer cover.
|
Replacing the ribbon pack
The optional ribbon pack (S010086) allows you to replace the ribbon in the ribbon cartridge. You can replace the ribbon pack up to four times. After that a new ribbon cartridge should be used.
Follow these steps to install the ribbon pack:

Turn off the printer and remove the ribbon cartridge from the printer.

Note:|
Do not touch the white cable inside the printer.
|

Remove the cartridge case lid from the cartridge case by taking off the pawls outward.
|
|
Push the roller inside the cartridge case as shown in the illustration, then remove the used ribbon.
|
|
Set the ribbon pack with the cellophane side facing down in the cartridge case frame.
|
|
Set the inked ribbon along the ribbon setting course as shown in the illustration.
|
|
Remove the cellophane and the case in the order shown in the illustration.
|
|
Attach the cartridge case lid to the cartridge case frame. Turn the ribbon feeding knob few times to check that the ribbon moves smoothly.
